Host a summer workshop with First Green!

GCSAA | Published on 7/14/2025

Summer is here, and so are opportunities to bring the excitement of a First Green field trip to your golf course! Young people are the future of our industry, yet many are unfamiliar with the roles of superintendents and equipment managers. You can change that by showcasing these careers firsthand.

Hosting a field trip is easier than you might think. When you express interest in hosting a First Green event, we will provide checklists, sample agendas, and resources to help you get started. Simply fill out this form!

Superintendents, course staff, and local industry partners can lead engaging STEAM activities that highlight the environmental and community benefits of golf courses, introducing a new generation to golf careers.

While we typically collaborate with schools during the academic year, summer offers a perfect opportunity to host a First Green field trip for your junior golf program or engage with local youth groups such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H, and more.

Many of our host superintendents describe First Green as the most enjoyable and rewarding program they've participated in on the golf course. Won’t you join us?

WHAT IS FIRST GREEN?

First Green, a Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA) program, pairs golf courses with local schools for unique science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) learning opportunities. Golf Course Superintendents coordinate a 90-minute to two-hour field trip. Students rotate through learning stations covering topics such as soil and plant science, golf course ecology, testing water quality, various math calculations using actual problems golf course superintendents need to solve on a daily basis. Through generous donor support, the field trips are offered at absolutely no cost to the student, school or host golf facility. First Green’s mission is to support environmental education, STEM learning and stewardship and to illustrate the environmental and community benefits of golf courses.
